Peanut or groundnut (Arachis hypogaea), is a species in the legume or “bean” family (Fabaceae). They are nuts gotten from mature peanut pods. The pod is composed of a single seed-bearing carpel that splits open along two seams. The Legume fruits come in an enormous variety of colours, shapes and sizes.

They have both Domestic and Industrial uses. 

• Peanut oil, also referred to as groundnut oil or arachis oil, is a vegetable-derived oil made from the edible seeds of the peanut plant. Peanut oil which are used for Paint, varnish, lubricating oil, leather dressings, furniture polish, Textiles, insecticides, and nitroglycerin.
• Soap is made from saponified oil, and many cosmetics contain groundnut oil and its derivatives.
• Peanut shells are used in the manufacture of plastic, wallboard, abrasives, fuel, cellulose (used in rayon and paper) and mucilage (glue).
• Peanuts are also used for food and as an ingredient in confectionery products. After the extraction of oil, the residual cake is processed largely for animal feed, but is also used for human consumption.
